General
The AGC Regimental Association provides
benevolence support to serving and ex-serving members of the AGC who find
themselves in genuine need, suffering hardship or distress.
The Regimental Association Benevolence
Committee considers all applications for benevolence support and all cases
are usually decided within 24 hours. The Benevolence Committee is
authorised to provide immediate grants and may approach ABF The Soldiers'
Charity for additional funding if necessary.
Applications for
Benevolence
Applications for benevolence support for
serving members of the Corps should be staffed through the chain of
command. A report of the circumstances with a recommendation as to the
support required should be sent direct to the Regimental Association
Secretary at RHQ AGC. (But
see next section of this page).
A copy of the benevolence application
form, which is used by SSAFA Forces Help and The Royal British Legion
(Form A) to notify cases, can be downloaded below and may be used to help
compile the case details. You may telephone the Regimental Association
Secretary on 94271 2254 (01962 887254) to discuss case details before
submitting any documents or papers.

Ex Serving members
Applications for benevolence support from
ex serving members of the Corps and their dependants should be made
through SSAFA Forces Help or The Royal British Legion. Telephone numbers
can be found in the Telephone Directory. These organisations carry out
our work on the ground and they will assign a Case Worker who will prepare
a report of the circumstances and send it to the Regimental Association
for consideration.
The Provision of
Individual Benevolent Support and Training/Re-skilling Support
Within the Army Recovery Capability
(ARC)
Help for Heroes (H4H) have committed to
provide a sum of money to be shared between ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and
the other individual Service Benevolent Funds, to be used to provide
direct, practical support to the current wounded, which in effect means
all those injured in training or wounded in action since 9 Sep 2001
('9/11'). This will enhance the funding currently available from
Regimental Associations and ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, to those personnel
that are wounded, injured and sick. These Funds are to be used to “support
the recipient in any reasonable way that helps their recovery or eases
their circumstances”.
In addition, Help for Heroes will provide
funds for at least 4 years to help to fund Individual Recovery Plans (IRP).
This money will be targeted at individuals passing through the ARC to
provide opportunities in retraining and resettlement to prepare them for a
fulfilling future.
The intention is to provide swift and
decisive support to those who need it within the parameters of proper
governance. ABF The Soldiers’ Charity are committed to ensuring that
requests for grants are completed within 2 working days of receipt.
(Grants over £5,000 will require additional authority and may take longer
to process.) These Funds are to be used to “support the recipient in any
reasonable way that helps their recovery or eases their circumstances”. An
exact definition of what is “support in any reasonable way” has yet to be
developed, however every case will be considered on its merits and over
time a clearer definition of need will evolve.
Grants from the H4H Fund will not
initially be subjected to means testing and will not therefore require any
detailed financial data. However, clear ‘need’ must be identified in every
case. The person who puts the case report together (caseworker) should
clearly articulate what the need is and why it cannot be met by the
‘client’.
Application will be made on a shortened
version of the COBSEO Form A which can be downloaded below. Grants may be
made to support those members of a soldiers’ family that have suffered
financial hardship as a result of the death, injury or sickness on
operations or training of the soldier. Family is, in this case, defined as
wives/husbands and children, and exceptionally parents, siblings,
recognised or un-recognised partner.
A detailed justification will need to be
made to support all applications beyond normally recognised ‘dependants’
e.g. wives/husbands and children. (An example of such a case would be the
parents of a soldier whose extended period in hospital has led to a loss
of income or an increase in costs, which has placed them in a position of
financial need.) In all such cases, advice should be sought from the
Regimental Association on 94271 2254 (01962 887254).
Applications for grants from this fund
should be sent to the AGC Regimental Association at the address at the
foot of the page.
